Succession planning refers to the process of matching the most suitable employees with vacant roles or positions within the organization. This typically involves determining who will be promoted or not, though it can also include lateral transfers.

Career planning involves helping employees determine their most preferred career path within the organization and helping them follow that path through learning and development activities.

HRSG has the expertise to develop and implement processes and systems allowing client organizations easily match vacant positions with the most qualified employee(s) within the organization, as well as helping employees determine which career path they prefer and what they must learn in order to most easily follow that chosen path.

Where do competencies fit in?

Knowledge of competency requirements for vacant positions allows HR planners or managers easily determine which employees have the competency make-up that will best fit the needs of the position. In addition, explaining to employees the competency requirements of various roles or positions along their chosen career path will help them more easily determine what they must acquire in terms of experience, knowledge or skills to be eligible for those positions.
